UCL / AI Implementation

Making responsible AI possible across a major university.

I led communications, consultation and engagement for two UCL AI initiatives: a secure out-of-hours writing and referencing service for students, and a pilot generative-AI platform for staff.

Big idea.

AI has the potential to improve how students learn and how staff work. But introducing it well requires more than selecting a platform.

UCL needed to consider how AI could be adopted responsibly: in a way that built confidence, addressed risk, reflected institutional values and created appropriate governance for future use.

Simply told.

I led communications, consultation and engagement across both initiatives.

I worked with stakeholders to understand concerns and build confidence among prospective users. I helped identify risks, consider sustainability, develop principles for responsible use and propose a governance structure.

The work connected the technical implementation with the human side of adoption - ensuring staff and students could understand what the platforms were for, how they would be used and the safeguards around them.

Lasting impact.

UCL gained clearer communications, stronger stakeholder engagement and a practical governance foundation for introducing AI services.

The work supported the safe and secure implementation of platforms for students and staff, while creating a more considered basis for future AI adoption across the university.
